Projects undertaken by Uniting Care:

Lakeview:

The new Lakeview facility will have 100 high low care places, with a substantial environmental sustainability initiatives incorporated into this new facility. These initiatives include:

  1. solar gas boosted hot water saving up to 30% of energy use
  2. solar electrical generation 25 kW generating 10% of site’s power
  3. mains power correction
  4. electric car recharge points
  5. bike racks
  6. fly screens and operable bedroom windows
  7. LCD lighting to areas
  8. reverse brick veneer to maintain stable temperature inside the building
  9. extra large double glazed windows to maximize sunlight and minimise heat loss
  10. natural ventilation from Wind catcher system brings fresh air into the building when outside temperature is within comfort range.
  11. natural night purge systems to flush heat out of building and bring fresh air in
  12. air-conditioning shut-off in room if windows open
  13. building management system including weather station and intelligent lighting
  14. rainwater tanks for irrigation and toilet flushing
  15. solar reflective glass
  16. variable refrigerant volume (VRV) air-conditioning system providing energy efficient cooling
  17. automatic louvres to windows for sunlight control
  18. 0zone technology in laundry to save water, electricity, gas and time.

  9. This facility achieved a 6 star energy rating.

Nyngan Congregation:

  1. Installed UV blinds on north face to limit heat load

Mandara Congregation:

  1. Natural ventilation
  2. Reverse cycle Air Conditioning
  3. On demand hot water units

Narromine Congregation:

  1. Fluorescent lighting
  2. Energy efficient office equipment
  3. Reverse cycle Air Conditioning
  4. Natural ventilation
  5. Off peak hot water
  6. Waste recycling
  7. Blinds on all windows to limit heat load

South West Rocks Congregation:

  1. Fluorescent lighting (20 y.o.)
  2. Insulation under roof sheeting
  3. Natural ventilation
  4. Fans on demand
  5. Full brick

222 Pitt Street – Synod office:

  1. Negotiated a new electricity contract to include an approximate 10% saving for 3 years
  2. Installed light switches in all meeting rooms and offices
  3. Installed instantaneous hot water units in kitchens.
  4. Supplementary AC installed in meeting rooms with timer controls to avoid leaving on for long periods.
  5. Energy efficient office computers and office equipment set to default to energy saving function.
  6. Open plan office environment to take advantage of natural lighting.
  7. The base building is 3.5star energy rated.
  8. Our tenancy has achieved a similar rating based on ABGR assessment tool.
